Kazakhstan: Motor fuel prices rising despite growing production volumes

In the first half of 2025, the production of gasoline and diesel fuel in Kazakhstan reached record high levels: 3.1 million and 3 million liters, respectively. Compared to the same period last year, gasoline production increased by 16.3% and diesel production by 16.9%, Energyprom.kz reported.

In February this year, gasoline prices in Kazakhstan were released to free float, and in June, a liter of AI-92 gasoline cost on average 210 tenge, AI-95 and AI-96 – 265 tenge, AI-98 – 302 tenge, and a liter of diesel – 310 tenge.

Late in April this year, Energy Minister Erlan Akkenzhenov stated that there were no prerequisites for price increases for gasoline and diesel fuel. However, the Ministry of Energy has now warned that the country may face a motor fuel shortage this coming fall. Fuel prices continue to rise, and the rise may continue in the fall.

In July 2025, popular AI-92 gasoline demonstrated the largest monthly increase in price, taking inflation into account: 1.8%. The price of diesel grew by 1.2%, AI-95 and AI-96 gasoline increased in price by 0.7%, and AI-98 by 0.9%.
