Italian agricultural organization Unione Coltivatori Italiani (UCI), which unites over 300,000 farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs and agro processors, plans to implement an investment project in Kazakhstan for the cultivation and advanced processing of industrial hemp for subsequent production of textiles, construction materials, and pharmaceuticals.
The project was discussed during an online meeting on July 17 between the leadership of Kazakh Invest national investment promotion company and UCI President Mario Serpillo.
According to Kazakh Invest, the project envisions a phased development of agro-technologies on land plots of up to 100 hectares in various regions of the country, followed by subsequent scaling up. The plan involves using industrial hemp varieties that comply with international standards for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content—no more than 0.3%—which excludes the plant’s psychoactive properties and classifies it as industrial raw material.
The meeting agreed to organize a UCI delegation visit to Kazakhstan to meet with relevant government bodies and development institutions, as well as select a potential region for the project launch.
