The Ilkhom Theatre has opened the exhibition “The Body I Live In,” dedicated to its 50th anniversary. Supported financially by the European Union, the project presents Ilkhom as a living organism — one that feels, changes, and remembers, the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan reports.
“The European Union is proud to be the financial partner of this project. For us, culture is not a luxury, but an essential bridge between people and societies. That is why we have been supporting Ilkhom Theatre in recent years, and have stood alongside its artists and audiences,” said Toivo Klaar, EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan.
In recent years, the EU has actively supported Ilkhom initiatives: Underground Girls (2022), based on the book by Swedish journalist Jenny Nordberg and on interviews with Afghan refugees as well as those who remained in Afghanistan after August 2021; the revival of Art Space (2023); and Ka Mate Ka Ora (2024), a production exploring the challenges of youth today. Each of these projects has brought new energy and new audiences to the theatre.
The exhibition is free and open to the public from 12 September to 27 October 2025 at Ilkhom Theatre.
