On Friday, 7 August 2026, the Eurasian Creative Guild (ECG), with the support of the Yunus Emre Institute – Buenos Aires, hosted a special screening of the acclaimed Kyrgyz historical film Kurmanjan Datka: Queen of the Mountains.
The cultural event brought together representatives of Buenos Aires’ creative, cultural and international communities for an evening dedicated to Kyrgyz history, cinema and cultural heritage.
The evening began with welcoming remarks by Çağlar Erteber, Director of the Yunus Emre Institute – Buenos Aires, who introduced guests to the Institute, its mission and its work in fostering cultural and artistic exchange. The Eurasian Creative Guild was also presented to the audience, with an introduction to its international activities and its mission to connect writers, artists, creative professionals and cultural organisations across Eurasia and beyond.
The screening offered the Buenos Aires audience an opportunity to explore a significant chapter of Kyrgyz and Central Asian history through cinema and to discover the remarkable story of Kurmanjan Datka, one of Kyrgyzstan’s most prominent historical figures. Remembered for her leadership, courage and political wisdom, Kurmanjan Datka has become a powerful symbol of Kyrgyz national identity and cultural heritage.
Directed by acclaimed Kyrgyz filmmaker Sadyk Sher-Niyaz, Kurmanjan Datka: Queen of the Mountains presents a pivotal period in Central Asian history through the life of a woman who played an extraordinary role in the political and social history of the region. The film has brought Kyrgyz cinema and history to audiences well beyond Central Asia.
For the Eurasian Creative Guild, the Buenos Aires screening marked another important step in strengthening cultural dialogue between Central Asia and Latin America. The event also created a valuable opportunity for audiences in Argentina to encounter the diverse histories, traditions and contemporary creative voices of Eurasia.
