EU and UNDP launch Youth Agro Eco Club at Tashkent State Agriculture University

The European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in close partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, have launched the Youth Agro Eco Club at Tashkent State Agriculture University. This new initiative aims to inspire and empower a new generation of environmentally conscious specialists to advance sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship in Uzbekistan, according to the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan.

“For us students, the Agro Eco Club is more than just a place to meet — it is a space where we can turn our ideas about protecting nature and promoting climate-smart agriculture into real projects. Being part of this club motivates us to take responsibility for the future of our land and communities, and we are committed to working on nature protection to support sustainable agriculture,” said Madina Ibragimova, a student at Tashkent State Agriculture University.

The Youth Agro Eco Club has been established within the framework of the EU-funded, UNDP-implemented project â€śSupporting an Inclusive Transition to a Green Economy in the Agri-food Sector and Development of a Climate-Smart Uzbek Agriculture Knowledge and Innovation System (EU-AGRIN).” The Agrarian Women Association played a key role in shaping the Club, ensuring that gender equality and inclusive leadership are central to its mission.

“The Youth Agro Eco Club represents an important step in empowering young people to lead Uzbekistan’s green transition. Their ideas and actions will help shape a sustainable future where agriculture and the environment go hand in hand. A few months ago, we also launched a Youth Hub at the Zangiata Agrotechnological College, and in the future, we see strong potential for joint initiatives between these platforms to amplify the voice of youth in building climate-smart agriculture”, said Roberto Aparicio, Programme Manager on Agriculture at the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan.

The Agro Eco Club is designed as a hub for students, educators, and young researchers to exchange knowledge, develop projects, and implement innovative solutions in sustainable agriculture. Equipped with modern resources for learning and collaboration, the Club provides not only physical space but also an intellectual platform for advancing eco-friendly practices and green governance.
