Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has signed a memorandum of cooperation with a consortium of Chinese companies Yellow River Engineering Consulting Co. Ltd., Leture Technology and Cheng Cheng Group for the construction of a plant to produce smart technologies for water resource management and irrigation systems in the southern Kazakh city of Taraz.
According to the ministry, the new plant will manufacture digital solutions, including automated water resource monitoring and distribution management systems, water level and quality sensors, software and hardware systems for irrigation water distribution, and early warning systems for floods and emergencies.
The plant will localize the production of advanced Chinese technologies in Kazakhstan, ensuring knowledge transfer and implementing modern standards in Kazakhstan’s water management sector.
The new facility is expected to become part of an integrated center based on the production-education-science principle, which, in addition to equipment production, will train specialists and adapt digital solutions to the country’s climatic and hydrological conditions.
The project will contribute to improving the efficiency of irrigation systems, reducing water losses, and strengthening water security in Kazakhstan.
“We have agreed to work together in several areas. First and foremost, this is the reconstruction of irrigation systems with the introduction of automation and digitalization. Secondly, this is personnel training. Over the past two years, we have established cooperation with Chinese companies. This year alone, 125 water management specialists completed advanced training courses in China at the expense of Power China,” said Kazakh Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
