Late in August, a presentation of a new book of children’s author from Uzbekistan Elena Makarova took place in London as part of the Eurasian Literature Day. The event gathered authors and other creative persons from Europe and Asia thanks to the coordination of the Eurasian Creative Guild (London).
Makarova, the winner of the Open Eurasia international literary competition, presented her book “Fairy tales for children,” written with subtle humor, deep philosophical subtext, and respect for the child’s soul. The collection of fairy tales is intended not only to entertain, but also to educate the reader, both young and adult. The book is primarily addressed to the youngest readers from 3 to 5 years old.
The book, in Russian and English, was published by the publishing house Hertfordshire Press (UK).
The bilingual format gives children the opportunity to read in two languages, and the illustrations enhance the emotional and educational component of the book. The publication was made possible thanks to the Maria Shevel Award, established to support talented children’s authors.
Makarova won the Best Children’s Book category at the Open Eurasia 2024 competition, a prestigious international literary competition that has annually brought together hundreds of participants from dozens of countries over the past 14 years.
The presentation was attended by the founder of Hertfordshire Press and vice-chairman of the Eurasian Creative Guild (London), Marat Akhmedjanov, who said: “In a world where attention is increasingly lost to simple things, it is the children’s book that becomes the first guide to culture, language, and humanity. We are proud that we can support such important initiatives, and it is especially pleasant that the author of the book represents Uzbekistan, a country with a rich literary heritage.”
The book is available on the Hertfordshire Press website, as well as on Amazon, Waterstones, and Google Books.
