Uzbekistan: Liaoning Normal University branch opens in Khiva

On August 17, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Liaoning Normal University branch in Uzbekistan and the Confucius Institute in Khiva.

A new educational complex has been built as part of a project implemented jointly with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Urgench State University, and China’s Liaoning Normal University.

The complex includes academic buildings for 560 students, a library, a sports hall, a 200-seat cultural hall, and a dining hall with seating for 118 people. A second four-story building houses classrooms for 628 students and a 224-bed dormitory.

The admission quota for 2026 has been set at 160 students. In the future, annual enrollment is expected to increase to 500 students, bringing the total student population to 2,000.

Courses will be offered in full-time and distance-learning formats in Uzbek, Chinese, and English. Bachelor’s programs will cover Chinese International Education, Tourism Management, International Business, and Artificial Intelligence, while master’s programs will include Chinese Language and Culture Teaching Methodology, Education Management, and Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technologies.

Diplomas issued by the branch will be directly recognized in Uzbekistan. Talented graduates will have the opportunity to continue their studies on a grant basis at leading universities and undertake internships at prestigious organizations in China.

Currently, 38 major projects worth a total of $2.343 billion are being implemented in the Khorezm region with the participation of Chinese investors. These projects require qualified specialists proficient in modern technologies and the Chinese language. The new educational institution and the Confucius Institute will help train specialists to meet this demand.

Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of aligning educational programs with the needs of the economy and the labor market, as well as creating all the necessary conditions for students to gain a strong command of modern technologies and foreign languages.
