As part of his official visit to Turkmenistan on July 1, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev was received by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
During the meeting, the Kazakh Foreign Minister conveyed warm greetings and best wishes on behalf of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Kosherbayev underscored the special importance that Astana attaches to Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan cooperation, which continues to develop in the spirit of good-neighbourliness, mutual respect, and strategic partnership.
President Berdimuhamedov expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum of bilateral cooperation and emphasized the importance of further deepening the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of the Treaty on Friendship, Good-Neighbourliness and Cooperation for the Development of Central Asia in the 21st Century. This historic step marked the beginning of a new stage of regional cooperation and sustainable development.
On the same day, Minister Kosherbayev held talks with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.
The two foreign ministers discussed a broad range of issues related to Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan cooperation, including further strengthening political dialogue and expanding collaboration in trade, investment, transport and logistics, energy, as well as cultural and humanitarian affairs.
“Turkmenistan is a close brotherly nation for Kazakhstan, bound to us by centuries-old ties of friendship and good-neighborliness. Thanks to our joint efforts, interstate relations have reached a qualitatively new level,” said the Kazakh Foreign Minister.
Meredov reaffirmed the Turkmen side’s readiness to further expand practical cooperation across the entire bilateral agenda.
The development of trade and economic cooperation was among the key topics of the talks. The ministers noted that bilateral trade increased by 6.8% in the first four months of 2026, reaching approximately $180 million. The parties confirmed their commitment to increasing bilateral trade to $1 billion.
