Construction of first container ship for Kazakhstan begins at Baku Shipyard

Construction of the first container ship with a capacity of 780 TEUs for Kazakhstan has begun at Azerbaijan’s Baku Shipyard.

According to the Kazakh Ministry of Transport, the project is a collaboration between the national maritime shipping company Kazmortransflot and Abu Dhabi Ports Group.

It will build two modern container ships designed for transporting containerized cargo across the Caspian Sea. The vessels are scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2027.

The new ships are intended to expand Kazakhstan’s container transportation capacity and strengthen the country’s role in cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

Also known as the Middle Corridor, the TITR is a multimodal transport corridor linking China and Europe through Central Asia and the South Caucasus.

The development of its own maritime fleet is a key focus of Kazakhstan’s transport policy.
