Uzbekistan and Latvia establish air cargo route

An event was held on January 28 at Riga International Airport to mark the launch of cargo flights by the Uzbek airline Flykhiva on the Tashkent–Riga route, Dunyo information agency reported.

As part of the event, a ceremonial reception was held for the airline’s first cargo plane arriving in the Latvian capital.

The event was attended by Andulis Židkovs, State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Latvia and Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Executive Board at RIX Riga Airport.

According to the Latvian side, the launch of the new air route is an important step in developing transport and logistics cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia, contributing to strengthening trade and economic ties between Central Asia and the European Union.

Židkovs noted that he views the introduction of direct cargo flights between Tashkent and Riga as a sign of further strengthening Uzbekistan’s position as an important logistics hub in the Central Asian region.

Flykhiva now plans to operate regular cargo flights on the Tashkent–Riga route once a week. The majority of the transported cargo consists of export products, postal and commercial shipments from Uzbekistan to EU countries, as well as orders placed through international e-commerce platforms such as TEMU and AliExpress.
