On October 28, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić arrived in Uzbekistan with an official visit.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vučić held negotiations in Tashkent to discuss prospects for further strengthening practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and Serbia.
“Your official visit in the year of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations is a historic event. Uzbekistan has great sympathy for Serbia. Our peoples are bound by strong ties of friendship and a similar mentality,” said the President of Uzbekistan.
Priority attention was paid to increasing trade turnover and preparing a comprehensive cooperation program in key sectors such as mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, the chemical industry, information technology and digitalization, the agro-industrial complex, and tourism.
The importance of developing new transport routes between Central Asia and the Balkans, including within the Trans-Caspian corridor, was noted.
In order to promote the economic agenda of cooperation, an agreement was reached to hold the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in Tashkent next year.
In the presence of the two leaders, a ceremony was held for the signing of a package of intergovernmental documents, including:
– Agreement on the Mutual Promotion and Protection of Investments;
– Agreement on economic cooperation;
– Agreement on cooperation in the field of medical services;
– Agreement on cooperation in tourism;
– Agreement on cooperation in education, science, and culture;
– Agreement on cooperation in engineering, advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, and related areas;
– Memorandum of cooperation in labor migration;
– Agreement on the establishment of partnership relations between the cities of Tashkent and Belgrade.
