Starting from 2026, a mechanism for detecting illegal tree cutting using space monitoring will be introduced in Uzbekistan.
This is stipulated in the presidential decree “On Measures to Expand the Use of Aerospace Data in Economic Sectors and Improve the Agricultural Management System.”
According to the document, the Agency for Space Research and Technology will conduct state space monitoring at least three times a year to promptly detect environmental violations related to the removal of waste beyond designated disposal sites and the formation of illegal landfills.
In addition, from March 1, 2026, special attention will be paid to preventing harmful practices such as burning straw and its residues on land cleared after the grain harvest.
The decree also outlines measures to be implemented in the fields of energy, transport, road infrastructure, space education, and water management. In particular, by October 1, 2026, territories in the Surkhandarya region will be studied for potential installation of solar panels with high efficiency.
All data will be entered into a centralized platform of the Agency called “Space Gov Monitoring” (SGM), where ongoing monitoring of measures taken in response to identified violations will be carried out.
